Designer name: Beisse, Bernd
Bernd Beisse was born as the youngest child of his mother and father, a lawyer, and younger brother of two sisters. After graduation, he is planning on becoming a popstar. So he starts his band, "The Jealous Chaps". He sings and plays the guitar but doesn’t become famous. He starts going to lawschool and moves into an old flat with an endlessly long hallway in downtown Nuremberg. This hallway needs to be lighted, so Bernd Beisse searches every shop for the right lighting. Naturally, he doesn’t find what he’s looking for because there’s nothing he really likes and everything’s far too expensive, anyway. He decides to design his own lamps. A number of coincidences help him get his lamps out on the market and Bernd Beisse spends day and night at his kitchentable putting together hundreds of small lamps. He comes up with "Die Reiter”, a present for his sister, initially, which turns out to be a great success. It is 1993 and Bernd Beisse decides to quit his studies to lighten up the world instead.
