Designer name: Ito, Toyo
  1941 -
Toyo Ito was born in 1941 and started Toyo Ito & Associates Architects in 1971. His main works include, White U (1976), Silver Hut (1984), Tower of Winds (1986), Shimosuwa Municipal Museum (1993), Dome in Odate (1997) and Sendai Mediatheque (2001). Recently not only at domestic projects, he is working at overseas projects particularly in Europe. He has made Bruges Pavillion (2002) and serpentine Gallery Pavillion 2002 in London (2002) and now working on several projects including Mahler 4 Block 5 in Amsterdam, Hospital Cognacq-Jay in Paris, and Relaxation Park in Torrevieja. In january 2003, he has won the competition for the extension at Fair of Barcelona Fair: Monjuic-2. At the Venice Biennale in 2002, he was awarded with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in recognition of his distinguished contribution to contemporary architecture. Toyo Ito has designed lighting for Rotaliana and Yamagiwa.
